Munchery Makes Dinnertime Easy and Delicious

MuncheryIt goes without saying that most families these days have busy schedules, with work, school, sports, activities, homework, and more taking up plenty of time. And I won't even get started on how busy and exhausted most new parents are! Cooking homemade meals during the week is often one of those things that falls by the wayside, but fortunately, meal delivery services can pick up the slack, and offer a healthy and less expensive alternative to takeout or restaurant meals.

We had the opportunity to try some of the delicious food from Munchery, a San Francisco-based startup that's using technology, sustainability, and talented chefs—most of whom are veterans of the Bay Area restaurant scene—to offer some great dinnertime options. Login to their website or launch their app on your mobile device and browse the day's menu, which will offer options ranging from sushi and salads to grilled chicken and lasagne Bolognese. They offer plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, too. Of course they also have plenty of kids' options, too, as well as side dishes, desserts, soft drinks, coffee, wine, and beer.

Unlike some of the other meal services we've tried, Munchery doesn't make you "subscribe" and receive everything at once on a weekly delivery. Instead, you can order food up until 2 pm each afternoon for same-day delivery. Meals are delivered to your door chilled and packaged in oven- and microwave-safe biodegradable containers. In keeping with their mission to be socially responsible, Munchery will donate a portion of their proceeds from every order to help feed someone in need.

Our order arrived promptly around 6 pm in a neat insulated Munchery bag. Each meal was neatly and attractively packaged with instructions for heating in the oven or microwave right on the containers. Everything was really fresh, well prepared, and of course delicious! Standout dishes were steak frites with an arugula salad, roasted chicken with chimichurri sauce and mashed potatoes and cauliflower, and a grilled chicken salad.

The kids had handmade corn dogs made with Niman Ranch "Fearless Franks", baked mac-and-cheese with cauliflower, and turkey meatballs with polenta. Plates were cleaned and seconds were requested! For dessert we had a selection of yummy cookies, brownies, and caramel popcorn.

Everything was really high quality and resembeled the food you'd get in a good restaurant. Entrée prices start at $8.95 each, and kids' meals at $4. We'd definitely order from them again! Right now, Munchery delivers in Marin County as far as north as San Rafael's Terra Linda area, but not to Novato. (If you live in Novato and you'd like to see it added to Munchery's delivery area, let them know!)
