Art, Story, and Song in Barefoot Books--And a New Giveaway!
Some of the best loved books in our house are those published by Barefoot Books. Founded by mompreneurs in the UK in the 1990s, Barefoot Books has become a successful childrens' book publisher through a winning formula of great stories accompanied by beautiful art and illustrations. Many of their books, like Whole World pictured above, come with sing-along or read-along CDs, many narrated by well known award-winning actors. Stories presented in Barefoot Books are both timeless and timely, and include tales from a variety of the world's cultures.
Recently, our friends at Barefoot Books sent us review copies of several of their best selling books. They also agreed to sponsor a new giveaway for Marin Mommies visitors, and generously offered to provide the same package of books for one lucky selected winner. The set is worth over $85 and includes hardbound editions of The Barefoot Book of Fairy Tales, The Boy Who Grew Flowers, Whole World (recently chosen by Oprah for the O List), My Daddy is a Pretzel, and Yoga Pretzels. All you have to do is send an email with BAREFOOT in the subject line to contests@marinmommies.com. All entries are due by midnight PST on Saturday, February 2, 2008. We'll randomly select a winner on Sunday, February 3.
We'll be reviewing each of the books in the coming week. I thought I'd start with two related offerings: My Daddy is a Pretzel and Yoga Pretzels.
My Daddy is a Pretzel, by Baron Baptiste, introduces both children and parents to yoga in a playful way. With colorful illustrations, it relates the various yoga poses included in the book to things people do in their everyday lives, and includes easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions for each position. It's fun to read and fun for kids to follow along and try out the yoga positions presented in the book.
Yoga Pretzels is a companion card set that provides 50 fun, educational, and easy-to-follow yoga activities that are suitable for kids of all ages and parents. Like the My Daddy is a Pretzel, these cards are colofully illustrated and clearly presented. Yoga Pretzels is written by yoga educators and founders of Yoga Ed., Tara Guber and Leah Kalish, with an introduction by Baron Baptiste.
It's been raining a lot here lately, so we've been having a lot of fun with both the book and card set. Yoga is a great way for kids to use up some of the pent up energy on a rainy day. It's a great alternative to running around the house like maniacs, and they both seem to enjoy the challenge posed by the yoga positions.
