U-Pick Apples at Gold Ridge Organic Farms in Sebastopol
When August rolls around that means it's time to be on the lookout for apple u-pick! Early varieties are ripe and reading for picking soon, and you can head to Gold Ridge Organic Farms in Sebastopol to pick your own on Saturdays in August and September!
This sprawling 88-cacre farm west of Sebastopol is renowned for their olive oil and heirloom apples, and they offer u-pick events where you can head out to the orchard and pick their organic Honeycrisp and Fuji apples after getting some picking tips and direction from farm staff. While you're there, try some treats like apple cider slushies ($6), apple scones by Red Bird Bakery ($4.50), and apple crisp by Blooms End with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of apple cider syrup ($10), all made with the farm's apples, of course. You can also climb on board the signature Apple Trolley for a fun and educational tour of the farm ($5).
The farm store is also open during u-pick, selling olive oil, heirloom apples, kitchenware, and other products. You can also sample heirloom apples and olive oil in the store.
We were at the u-pick opening this Saturday and had a great time — there are so many apples just ready for picking! The trees here are all relatively small and the apples grow pretty close to the ground, so they're really easy for kids to pick. You'll know apples are ripe when you give them a little twist and they come off in your hand (the staff will show you how to do it). Any less-than pefect apples can be placed in the cider apple boxes; they'll be pressed for juice later. Right now, Honeycrisp apples are ripe; Fuji will be available later on in the season. Did we mention the farm is also a great place for a family photo op?
2026 apple u-pick at Gold Ridge Organic Farms takes place on Saturday, August 15, 22, and 29 and September 5 and 12, and 26. U-pick admission is $8 for adults and $3 for children; advance registration is required. U-pick time slots are at every 15 minutes from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. U-pick apples cost $4 per pound and admission includes your own canvas apple picking bag!
