Produce, Picnics, and a New Tiburon CSA at Bloomfield Farms

Bloomfield Farms u-pick vegetablesBloomfield Farms, a family farm located west of Petaluma, is a fantastic place to spend a day on the farm picking your own certified organic produce. But there are even more reasons to come out this fall with guest appearances by renowned local chefs who will be creating delicious and fresh family friendly fare using veggies from the farm and nearby producers.

Stop by the farm, dine on some fantastic food, and then go out in the fields and fill a box of fresh produce to take home. U-pick at Bloomfield Farms takes place Sundays, through November 4, from 10 am to 3 pm.

  • This Sunday, October 7, locavore chef Brandon Guenther of the acclaimed Rocker Oysterfeller's in nearby Valley Ford presents a Table to Farm picnic, it's another pay-what-you can-dining event.
  • The pay-what-you-can Farm Fun Brunch with Chef John Lyle and Hardcore Farm to Face returns on October 14, 21, and November 4.
  • Paella expert, locavore, and food forager Gerard Nebesky of Gerard's Paella (and winner of the Food Network paella throwdown against Bobby Flay) will make an appearance on October 28; cost TBD.

New Tiburon/Belvedere/Strawberry CSA

Just because u-pick ends for the season on November 4 doesn't mean you can't get fresh organic produce from the farm all year round—Bloomfield Farms has started a new premium CSA program for Tiburon, Belvedere, Strawberry, and nearby areas, in partnership with the Lodge at Tiburon and Tiburon Tavern. CSA box deliveries will be available every Friday from 2:30 to 9 pm at the Lodge at Tiburon, located at 1651 Tiburon Boulevard. For more information, visit www.bloomfieldfarmsorganics.com; you can sign up for the CSA  here. Marin residents can also pick up CSA boxes in Larkspur at the Marin Country Mart on Wednesdays.

If You Go

Bloomfield Farms is located 12250 Valley Ford Road in the little town of Bloomfield just northwest of Petaluma. It's scenic drive of approximately 45 minutes from central Marin. To get there, take Highway 101 to the Washington Street exit in Petaluma. Turn left at the stop light onto Washington Street and follow it until it becomes Bodega Avenue. Follow Bodega Avenue into the Two Rock Valley area, then bear right as Bodega Avenue becomes Valley Ford Road. Bloomfield Farms will be on your left just after Bloomfield Road—look for the sign and the orange flags.

U-pick at Bloomfield Farms is offered through November 4, 2012 on Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm. An RSVP to upick@bloomfieldfarmsorganics.com or on the farm's Facebook page is appreciated, but not essential. The cost is $25 per box of produce; cash only.

Bring a knife (a pocket knife or even a serrated bread knife is fine) and gloves, as well as a hat, sunscreen, as there's not a lot of shade out in the fields. Also, make sure you pack light jackets or sweatshirts, as the weather out near the coast is notoriously fickle. Sturdy shoes or boots and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty are likewise a must; this is a working farm, after all. A portable toilet restroom is available, as well as drinking water, but you might want to bring your own, just in case.
