Easy Valentine's Day Paper Craft: Heart Buddies

Always on the lookout for fun and easy crafts to make, I loved these cute little Valentine's Day heart people that my daughter made in her kindergarten class. My daughter, who takes after me in the craft department, spent an afternoon making an army of these little guys, who she called "heart buddies," to decorate our house for Valentine's Day.

They're easy and fun to make. If you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, you can trace around it to make your heart shape. If not, you can cut them by hand; it's not hard to do.

To make this craft, you'll need:

  • Black, red, and pink construction paper
  • Glue, glue sticks, or tape
  • Scissors
  • A black marker
  • Plastic googly eyes (optional)

For each heart buddy, cut out two heart shapes from pink or red construction paper. Cut out a large heart for the body, about 2-1/2 inches across, and a slightly smaller one for the head.

Cut out four 1-inch wide strips of black construction paper, each about 8 inches long. These will be the legs and arms. (I made the arms a touch thinner.)

Cut four small hearts out of red or pink paper for the hands and feet. Glue or tape the head to the body, so that the bottom of the head comes down about halfway on the body. Accordion pleat the arms and legs, and attach them to the back of the body. Attach the hands and feet to the legs.

Draw a face with the black marker. You can draw the eyes on or glue on plastic googly eyes if you have some. That's it—you're done! Now go hang them around the house and have a terrific Valentine's Day.
