15 Fun Things to do With the Kids the Week of August 24–30

See the classic movie The Wizard of Oz this Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma

Here's our weekly list of 15 fun things to do with the kids this week, August 24–30. From virtual storytimes and art projects to moon exploration and an online end-of-summer celebration, there's something for everyone.

Keep in mind that some of these activities require advance registration, so check the organizer's website before you attend. If you have something fun you'd like to share, please let us know and we'll consider it for next week's list!

  1. Visit a local beach near your house and make a masterpiece for the virtual Point Reyes Sand Scuplture Contest now through Sept. 13.
  2. ReadTiny T. Rex and the Very Dark Dark in virtual storytime on the Sausalito Library YouTube Channel.
  3. Make an apple pie with local Gravenstein or other early season apples.
  4. Join the fun at Music in the Park with JAMaROO Kids, Mondays, Old Mill Park (10–10:30 am) & Blackie's Pasture (11:45 am–12:15 pm)
  5. Explore the Moon with a virtual program from the Cal Academy's Morrison Planetarium. Tuesday, August 25, 9:30–10 am
  6. Create your own illustrated haiku with the Asian Art Museum.
  7. Make your reservation to play and learn outdoors the the Bay Area Discovery Museum.
  8. Sing and Stomp (virtually!) with Emily Bonn, direct from Paris and the Mill Valley Library. New video on Tuesday, August 25.
  9. Get the kids in the kitchen for a homemade pizza night.
  10. Celebrate the end of summer with a Zoom event with Cascada de Flores and the Marin County Library. Wednesday, August 26, 4 pm
  11. Learn about opers with free Opera in an Hour streaming movies from SF Opera.
  12. Hone your cartooning skills by learning how to draw Charlie Brown with the Charles M. Schulz Museum.
  13. Follow the Yellow Brick Road as Petaluma Drive-in Movie presents The Wizard of Oz at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds. Friday, August 28, 7:30 pm
  14. Join Megan Schoenbohm for a live and interactive outdoor kids' music show in downtown Novato, Saturday & Sunday, August 29 & 30, 11 am–noon
  15. Experience E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial at the Lark Drive-in: Movies Under the Stars. Saturday, August 29, 8:30 pm
