50 Years of Family Tradition at Larsen’s Christmas Tree Farm

Every year we love to pay a visit to Larsen’s Christmas Tree Farm in Petaluma. With its beautiful country setting, acres of green trees, and festive holiday spirit, it’s really a fun place for a December family outing. This year, Larsen’s celebrates 50 years of making the holidays bright for Bay Area families!

Like many places in rural Petaluma, Larsen’s Christmas Tree Farm began life as a chicken farm started by the Larsen family back in 1918. In 1963, the first Christmas trees were planted, and the choose-and-cut tree farm was opened to the public for the 1965 holiday season by Bob and Marilyn Larsen. Bob and Marilyn still live on the property, but now their grandson Richard runs the farm.

Larsen’s Christmas Tree Farm offers three varieties of trees to cut down: Monterey Pines, Leland Cypresses, and Scotch Pines. They also carry fresh cut Douglas, Turkish, and Noble firs. All u-cut trees cost $44.95, regardless of size, this season. (You can download a coupon for $3 off any tree off their website.)

In addition to Christmas trees, you’ll find picturesque red barns, one of which houses a holiday gift shop, and cute wooden bridges that cross the seasonal stream that runs through the property. In the sales room, you’ll find a bake sale on weekends that benefits local youth groups like Girl Scouts, as well as free coffee.

Larsen’s Christmas Tree Farm is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 9 am to 5 pm. It’s located at 391 Marshall Avenue, Petaluma 94952. To get there, take Highway 101 to the Washington Street exit. Take East Washington Street west over the freeway and turn right on Petaluma Boulevard North. Petaluma Boulevard North to Magnolia Avenue where you’ll turn left. Head west on Magnolia Avenue, and turn right on Marshall Avenue; Larsen’s will be on your left.
