SMART Train Service Begins Today!

The Federal Government has given the go-ahead for the long-awaited SMART Train to start service, and the first trains begin rolling from Santa Rosa to San Rafael on Friday, August 25. To celebrate the start of rail service from Sonoma to Marin, fares will be free on opening day, then 50% off through Labor Day, September 4. Full-price fares will kick in on Tuesday, September 5. SMART will run 34 trips each weekday and 10 trips a day on weekends.
A community grand opening event will take place at the Santa Rosa downtown station on Friday at 9 am, with food, music, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and an inaugural train ride. Get a commemorative T-shirt and free Clipper card while supplies last! Full train service begins at 12:49 pm. The Santa Rosa station is located at 7 Fourth Street in historic Railroad Square near downtown Santa Rosa. SMART staff will also be on hand at stations on Saturday and Sunday, August 26 and 27, to hand out commemorative giveways (while supplies last).
