- Visit the animals, walk along the coastal trail, and picnic at the beautiful Slide Ranch, Muir Beach. Open to the public, 8 am–dusk.
- Join the Golden Gate National Recreation Area for an MLK Weekend of Service, Friday–Monday, various times.
- See The Wizard of Oz (1939) on the big screen at the Lark Theater in Larkspur, Saturday, 9 am, Sunday, 3 pm, Monday, 6 pm.
- Head out to Point Reyes National Seashore for whale and elephant seal watching, Saturday & Sunday, 10 am–4 pm.
- Take a family waterfall hike to Buck Gulch Falls in Novato (AKA the Fairway Waterfall).
- Experience incredible lighted art in a free event in downtown Napa, Saturday, 6–10 pm, Sunday 6–9 pm.
Friday, January 17
- Read, play, and sing your way through favorite books at Little Penguin Story Time at Dominican University in San Rafael, Friday, 10–10:30 am.
- Sing, dance, jump and play with musician Emily Bonn at San Anselmo Library, Friday, 10:30–11 am.
- Join In Harmony Music for music and dancing in Sausalito's Robin Sweeny Park, Friday, 11:30 am–noon.
Saturday, January 18
- Shop for fresh produce and locally made foods and enjoy live kids' entertainment at the Marin Country Mart Farmers' Market, Saturday, 9 am–2 pm.
- Sing along to rollicking sea chanteys at the Bear Valley Visitor Center in Point Reyes National Seashore, Saturday, 3 pm.
- Join the Richmond District's first-ever Lunar New Year Parade and celebrate the Year of the Snake in San Francisco, Saturday, 3:30–8 pm.
- Kick off the New Year by enjoying a warm campfire, songs, and marshmallow roast in the Sonoma Barracks Courtyard, Saturday, 5:30–7 pm.
- Explore the solar system at a public star party at Robert Ferguson Observatory in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Kenwood, Saturday, 7–10 pm
Sunday, January 19

- Participate in a family-friendly art activity for Marin Art Day at Sarah Shepherd Gallery at Marin Country Mart, Saturday, 1–3 pm.
- Welcome the Year of the Snake at the Museum of Sonoma County's Lunar New Year Festival in Santa Rosa, Sunday, 2–4 pm.
- Join Marin Parks rangers and their dogs on a fun and informative walk in Ring Mountain Preserve in Tiburon, Sunday, 3:30–5:30 pm.
Monday, January 20 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
- Visit Muir Woods for free in honor of MLK Day (parking reservations still required), Monday, 8 am–sunset.
- The Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito will be open from 10 am–4 pm for MLK Day.
- Take one last skate on the final day of the Union Square Ice Rink in San Francisco, Monday, 10 am–11 pm.
